Don’t we love epic space adventures, those twisting, imaginative sagas, and endearing adventures? The space opera is obviously set in space, whisking readers away with literally far-out storylines often featuring heavy whiffs of romance and even splashes of melodrama.

Today, we talk to one of our favorite science fiction authors, Lon E. Varnadore, about his space opera series, Junker Blues, about his love for this subgenre, and why he’s drawn to darker science fiction and fantasy. You may remember Lon from the show when he was discussing his novel “Mostly Human” back in 2018. Uniquely, his work also grazes the mystery noir genre, and even military sci-fi.
