Paulino Mamiir Chol Turns Tragedy into Triumph in New Memoir, Leading the Lost Boys

Paulino Mamiir Chol, author and member of the Lost Boys of South Sudan, shares his personal story from being a kidnapping survivor to a leader in his latest memoir ‘Leading the Lost Boys: The Untold Journey.’  Paulino Mamiir Chol boldly tells an untold story as an effort to fight the inhuman darkness humans are capable of while still empowering the hearts of those suffering. Leading the Lost Boys tells us that there’s still hope, and we can overcome any hardships life may throw at us.

Turning adversity into opportunity, tragedy into triumph

Paulino Mamiir Chol was abducted from his family in the Twic County of Warrap state. For over 17 years, Chol experienced a lot, including surviving abduction, a 3,000-mile barefoot walk across South Sudan, starvation during the Second Sudanese Civil War, and more. Mr. Chol details his transformation from a kidnapping survivor to leading 700 other boys across three African countries in his memoir. All the journeys of the Lost Boys, including the murderous actions and horrific human rights abuses of the Murahalin Militia before and after the Second Sudanese Civil War, are noted in his book. The book shows how Mr. Chol has to fight for survival while having grit and determination to lead others and save lives, just as everyone seeks freedom.

“This book is a form of defense, and I promise to fight against inhumanity and human rights abuses. This fight consolidates my belief, faith, and hope in humanity and human rights.” – Paulino Mamiir Chol.

Leading The Lost Boys: The Untold Journey is an inspirational book that teaches us to keep our composure and persevere even in the most challenging times. It tells us that there’s always a silver lining, and each of us can overcome the past traumas that held us down. Mr. Chol’s ability to lead thousands of boys in times of crisis says a lot about his character. It inspires us to do the same in life: to not give up and turn the table for the betterment of the majority.
