Interview with Jay Morris PhD Author of Masterpiece: Our Journey to Spiritual Transformation

Q.What Inspired You to Write Your Book?

A.I believe the Holy Spirit inspired me to write Masterpiece at a very young age. The book highlights the Holy Spirit’s influence in my life and shows how the lessons I learned from the inner city prepared me to successfully operate in Corporate America. I was compelled to let readers know that the Bible is real and that it has the power to change and transform lives.

Q.What inspired the title for your book?

A.The Bible verse, Ephesians 2:10, “We are God’s Masterpiece, created anew in Christ Jesus to do the good things He planned for us long ago” (New Living translation), inspired me to use the title, “Masterpiece Our Journey to Spiritual Transformation.”

Q.What would you say is the most interesting quirk of your book?

A.I don’t know that I would call it a quirk, but one of the things that appears to be of interest is that both of my parents were children of alcoholic fathers and their mothers died terrible deaths before the ages of 55. My parents were both filled with love, and in spite of their dysfunctional behaviors they enabled me to live a productive and joyful life. I can truly say that I have lived a most enjoyable life, despite difficult and painful circumstances.

Q.Why did you decide on this story to tell?

A.My desire is that people live their best possible lives. In order to do this, people must be taught how to live a balanced life that necessitates caring for body, mind, and soul. It is my belief that the majority of human beings are not taught how to nurture and develop their soul. This book is an introduction on how to develop our soul, the same way we are taught in school at early ages on how to develop our body and our mind.

Where do you get your ideas for your book?

A.As I reflected on my life I began to notice accomplishments that appeared to be random coincidences that just seemed to occur. But realized, these were not just random acts. I also noticed that I appeared to be more fortunate than many of my peers. I learned to recognize that the Holy Spirit was actively involved in my life and I began to identify specific events where I could see His active involvement.

Q.What Can Readers Expect from This Book?

A.Readers will learn that the Bible is a manual for learning about God. This book provides practical steps on developing our soul and finding, success, peace and joy in our life. This book is able to bring life into the heart and soul of its readers. These are not just empty words, but observations from my own life and the lives of others I have known.

Q.What Do You Want the World to Know About Your Book?

A.I want people to know that God is real and learning about Him can be the most joyous discovery of our life. This book is an introduction on how to find joy in knowing God and discovering ways to make our lives a wonderous, enjoyable experience. It is also an opportunity to learn about the beauty that each of us offers to this world. Hopefully, readers will learn to love themselves and recognize the beauty they bring to this world, much like a flower. I also want the reader to know that death is not to be feared.

QHow Do You Think Your Book Relates to The World Today?

A.This present world seems to be filled with pain, sorrow, hatred, and hopelessness. My desire is that Masterpiece will give people hope, and realize we each have the ability to live a life that has purpose and meaning. All we have to do is learn to recognize that by connecting our soul to the source of its being, we can walk in our spirit with the God of Creation on a daily basis. Life on earth can be filled with love, joy, and peace.

Q.What do you hope will be the everlasting thoughts for readers after finishing your book?

A.I pray that readers will establish a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit and find happiness in reading the Bible on a daily basis. I pray that readers will see from Masterpiece that a life of joy is attainable and it doesn’t require money or prestige.

What is your favorite excerpt from your book?

A.Chapter eight, Pruned by the Holy Spirit highlights a woman who was divorced and dejected is one of my favorite excerpts. Kay has applied the principles from Masterpiece and is now influencing women across the country on how to find joy and love from walking with the Holy Spirit.

Q.What Are Your Plans for Future Writing Projects?

A.I have been invited to develop workshops for the book and now in the process of writing my next book that will take Masterpiece to the next level.
